How to Register a Player on NW Chess

Open nwchess.com/OnlineRegistration/

This is where your child will be officially added to the tournament roster.

• If you have registered for a NW Chess event before, log in with your existing email and password.
• If this is your first time, create a new account using your email address and password.

Please do not create a duplicate profile if your child has played in a previous chess tournament.

After logging in, add your child as a player or update the existing player profile. Make sure the following information is correct:

• Player name
• Grade
• School
• Parent contact information
• NWSRS rating, if available
• USCF ID, if available

This tournament is NWSRS & USCF rated, so players need an active US Chess / USCF membership.

If your child does not have a USCF ID, you can create one by joining US Chess. First-time members can create an account, purchase a membership, and receive a unique Member ID.

After the membership is created, save your child's USCF ID / US Chess Member ID. You may need it during tournament registration.

When contacting US Chess, include:

• Child's full name
• Date of birth, if needed
• Parent email used for registration
• Existing USCF ID, if known
• Description of the issue

NWSRS is the Northwest Scholastic Rating System used for scholastic chess ratings in Washington and nearby states. NWSRS does not require a paid membership — ratings are created and maintained through rated tournament participation, and there are no dues or membership in NWSRS.

On the NW Chess registration page, look through the list of upcoming tournaments. Find:

Rising Knights Scholastic Chess Tournament

Click the registration option for that event.

Sections for this tournament:

• K–3 U700
• K–3 Open
• 4–12 U900
• 4–12 Open

For first-time parents:

• K–3 means Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
• 4–12 means 4th grade through 12th grade.
• U700 means "under 700 rating."
• U900 means "under 900 rating."
• Open means players in that grade group can play regardless of rating.

If your child does not have a rating yet, choose the section that best matches their grade and tournament readiness.

A bye is used when a player cannot play one of the rounds. For this tournament, up to 2 half-point byes are allowed.

• Your child can skip up to 2 rounds if needed.
• Each approved bye gives 0.5 point.
• Only request a bye if your child will miss that round.
• If your child can play all rounds, do not select any byes.

Example: If your child has another activity and cannot play Round 1, you may request a Round 1 bye.

Before submitting, review:

• Player name
• Grade
• School
• Section
• USCF ID / US Chess Member ID
• Bye requests, if any

Then submit the registration.

NW Chess registration only adds your child to the tournament roster. You must also complete payment and child details on our tournament page.

Click on "Pay and provide child details" to create a Brightwheel account and complete payment.

Brightwheel is the app we will use for tournament communication, including:

• Pairings
• Results
• Individual messages
• Parent updates
• Payment

Please arrive early for check-in.

Recommended items to bring:

• Water bottle
• Snacks or lunch
• Pencil
• Chess clock, if available
• USCF ID / membership information
• Jacket or sweater

Parents are responsible for supervising their child between rounds, during lunch, and during breaks.
